People do not know all the varieties of choices for computing that there are available. Most people know about desktops and laptops, but few people know about the single board computers. These are smaller computers that may be a little less powerful, but are more known for the way they have been designed.
There are several choices within the single board market, as well. People can choose a version just to listen to music, or they can choose to have it for a dedicated programming machine to be able to show off what they can do. They can also choose from a variety of operating systems, depending on what they enjoy.
Operating systems
Some of the more expensive single boards can operate Windows, but the less costly will need to utilize operating systems that are less resource intensive. Android is a popular choice, just like what is on many phones. Linux is another choice that has been talked about for many of these systems. That is something for someone to think about. They have as many choices for operating systems as any other computer. The difference is, not all can handle Windows, so with those, a person can experiment with an operating system that they do not know.
Robotics and automation
One of the uses of a single board is to use it for robotics uses or automation systems. If a person wants to set up a factory that utilizes automation, they can just grab some Intel single board computers and set it up. People can set up a robotics lab using these machines. It opens the world up to creating the next generation with systems that are cheaper than the computers people are used to, and still able to perform in these areas. People want to be at the table for the next leap in technology, and this is one way that can happen.
Keep entertained
People want to be able to stream music, movies, or television shows on the road. They want this for their kids, or a way to while on business trips. A single board can do this. While it is not as fancy as creating a robot that could have some artificial intelligence, it will still have people looking at it. People want to stream. If they did not, then all these major companies would not be setting up their own services. Being able to have a system separate from a work computer is a must. The kids can have their own system.
Programming
People who program want to be comfortable. They do not want to sit at a desk for eight or more hours a day. A single board can allow someone to have mobility without the prices of a laptop. Most IDEs do not need a lot of memory. Many programmers can save to the cloud, so that saves hard drive space.
Programming does not need a lot of RAM to operate smoothly. The computer that programmers use for their job can allow them to be at home and watch their kids grow up. This means that a single board will allow for people to have less stress and still be productive.
Raspberry Pi started a trend that has expanded beyond what their hopes were. It allows for people to have freedom at reasonable prices. It also keeps the prices down so that people that usually have problems affording a computer has that ability. That is what the creators of Raspberry Pi wanted, just did not realize all the possibilities.
